The National Initiative for Agricultural Development (NIAD), in cooperation with the Ministry of Works, Municipal Affairs and Urban Planning and the Supreme Council for the Environment, planted 191 trees in Khalifa City, with the generous support of Standard Chartered Bank.

The generous contribution from the bank confirms the important role of the private sector in supporting national efforts aimed at expanding the green area, advancing the environmental and agricultural sector, mitigating the effects of environmental and climatic changes and enhancing food security.

The partnership between the public and private sectors will contribute to achieving the Sustainable Development Goals and Bahrain’s commitment to net-zero carbon emissions by 2060.

Khalifa City is one of the latest housing projects that have been launched in the Southern Governorate. The city has a special location, bordered on one side by the waters of the Arabian Gulf and on the other by King Hamad Highway.

Given the large population density and the coastal and desert nature of the area, it was important for the national initiative to contribute to expanding the green area in the city to create natural plant screens.

To boost the aesthetic look, 100 roll trees and 91 Poinciana trees were planted, adding beauty to the city and shades to passers-by.

Seeking to promote the concept of volunteerism and citizenship, the bank invited its employees and their families to contribute to planting trees, under the supervision of specialists in the Southern Municipality.
