What is Pruning?

Pruning is one of the important agricultural practices carried out by farmers in their farms or gardens to care for their trees, it comprises the removal of superfluous, undesired or diseased twigs and branches so as to maintain the healthy growth and fruitfulness of a tree.

Types of Pruning:

This type of pruning is performed on saplings and young trees to get good structured and strong trees; through that kind of pruning the shape of a tree may be determined by selecting the suitable and strong branch for cultivation.

This process is necessary to remove broken, diseased, overcrowded branches and branches which are far from the main trunk that are dry. By this process we remove undesired branches and plant cancers (a branch growing in a static place) on an annual basis.

This type of pruning is performed on flowering and fruiting trees, the said pruning may also be coupled with pruning for the purpose of cleaning. It is effective as it enhances flowering and improves fruiting to meet quality specifications. It also contributes to strengthening branches, thus making them strong and not easily broken when bearing fruit; branches also acquire a regular shape.

This type of pruning is very useful in landscaping; it has also become very necessary as young trees are trimmed in geometrical shapes as spherical, cubic, cylindrical and obelisk or any other fanciful shape. Trees may also be trimmed in the shape of animals; this process may be undertaken a number of times every year.

This kind of pruning is carried out for old and perennial trees with the purpose of rejuvenating them:
